This Privacy policy explains how personal data is processed in connection with the use of the digital edition The Writings of Tove Jansson, published by the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland (SLS).

What personal data SLS collects
When you register for an account to access the digital edition, SLS collects the following personal data:
- First name and last name
- Email address
In addition, you may provide the following information on a voluntary basis:
- Country of residence
- Intended purpose of use (personal, educational, or scholarly)
SLS does not collect special categories of personal data.
To prevent misuse, SLS may collect information about the extent of the user’s use of the service.
Purpose of processing
Your personal data is processed for the following purposes:
- To create and manage user accounts
- To provide access to the digital edition
- To administer and maintain the service
- To communicate with users about their accounts or the service
- To ensure the security and proper use of the service
Information about country of residence and intended purpose of use is used only for statistical and reporting purposes, for example to help SLS understand the service’s user base and the contexts in which the digital edition is used.
Legal basis for processing
The legal basis for the processing of personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
- Article 6(1)(b) – processing is necessary for the performance of a contract, namely providing access to the service, and
- Article 6(1)(f) – processing is necessary for the legitimate interests pursued by SLS, such as administering access to the service and ensuring its security.
The provision of information about country of residence and intended purpose of use is voluntary and is not required in order to access the service.
Storage and location of data
Personal data is stored on secure servers located in Finland.
Appropriate technical and organisational measures are in place to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, and misuse.
Data retention
Personal data is retained for as long as the user account remains active.
If an account has been inactive for a period of 24 months, it is deleted and the personal data associated with it is removed, unless there is a legal or administrative reason to retain the data for a longer period.
At the user’s request, an account may be deleted, and access to the service will be terminated without undue delay. In connection with the deletion of the account, the personal data associated with it is deleted.
Personal data may be retained after account deletion where necessary for the establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims, in accordance with applicable data protection legislation. Such data is retained separately, subject to appropriate access controls, and deleted once it is no longer necessary for that purpose.
Recipients of personal data
Access to personal data is restricted to authorised staff at SLS who administer and maintain the service.
Personal data is not disclosed to third parties, except where disclosure is required by law or necessary for the technical operation of the service, such as hosting. In such cases, appropriate data processing agreements are in place.
Where misuse of the service is suspected, personal data relating to the users concerned may be disclosed to the rights holders of Tove Jansson.
Transfers outside the EU/EEA
Personal data is not transferred outside the European Union or the European Economic Area.

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Request the correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Request the deletion of your personal data
- Request restriction of processing
- Object to the processing of your personal data on grounds relating to your particular situation
